Ego Lawn Mower Reviews

Ego Mower 2022 – The EGO POWER+ 3-in-1 21-inch mower provides long-lasting power, fast charging and durability. It features a sleek, lightweight construction and folds for easy storage. It has 6 cutting height options and provides up to 45 minutes of run time on a single charge using the included 56 V 5.0 Ah ARC Lithium(TM) battery.

With over 10 EGO mower models to choose from, there’s something for everyone!
Back in 2014, we had the pleasure of testing the first EGO battery-powered mowers. Since then, they have significantly expanded their product lineup and remain a leader in battery-powered mower innovation.

While the top of their current lineup of 10 models is near the top of the residential battery-powered mower price list, if you’re buying an EGO mower, they also have a pair at a lower price point for a tighter budget. All in all, they do a great job of meeting all customer needs.

EGO Mower Batteries

The EGO runs on a 14-cell battery system that produces 56 volts. While their 2.0Ah and 2.5Ah batteries are the preferred choice for EGO’s string trimmers and hedge trimmers, we prefer the 5.0Ah and 7.5Ah battery packs for mowers. 1 battery will typically cover 1/4 acre of lawn and two batteries will cover 1/2 acre or more.

For greater performance, consider using the latest 10Ah batteries.

One thing that separates the EGO from other cordless mower options is their battery design. The internal batteries match the curved package design and help cool the package more efficiently. Each battery also has a phase change coating that helps cool them faster.

EGO Select Cut Battery Insertion

When we tested cordless mowers in Central Florida, the batteries tended to heat up quickly between the high temperatures and the tougher St. Augustine and Baha’i grass species. Those batteries that finish fully discharging without reaching thermal shutdown need a break before the charger deems it safe to charge them.

Everything but the EGO. Even after we put their latest mower through rigorous testing at the Turf Farm, the batteries we used started charging immediately and in some cases they were put back into play before other brands.

The other good news is that EGO’s entire line uses 56V batteries – even the zero-turn mowers. If you want to buy an EGO mower first and then upgrade to a different model, the batteries will work.

The same is true if you want to add other lawn care equipment, such as a fine rope trimmer, hedge trimmer or blower. If you’re looking for battery-powered inverters , they’re the same batteries that run Nexus power stations.

Nevertheless, we recommend the entire product line, although each model is suitable for a different user. Choosing the right model for your needs and expectations is the key to getting the best experience.

Best EGO Walk-behind Mowers
EGO 56V Select Cut XP Self-Propelled Mower (LM2130SP)

The EGO Select Cut XP mower is, without a doubt, the top walk-behind mower available today. It is not only in the EGO line-up, we think it is the best of all cordless mowers.

It has a stacked blade system that only EGO currently has in the electric trolley segment. The “Select Cut” in the name is because you get two blade options that come with the kit. One blade provides a high quality cut and better run time, the other optimizes mulching. Depending on our grass growth rate, we use the mulching blade.

It is not the most powerful or expensive of the EGO product line. However, it can even handle some overgrowth if weather or holidays force you to let your lawn take a few extra days. It also has a newly designed drive control system that we prefer over EGO’s other self-propelled models.

The Most Powerful EGO Mower
EGO 56V Peak Power Self-Propelled Mower (LM2142SP)

When we tested gas and battery powered mowers side-by-side, we thought the gas easily outperformed what any brand could do with batteries. the 21-inch EGO Peak Power Self-Propelled Mower blew us away by outperforming every other mower we tested, with the exception of Honda’s HRX series and possibly the EGO Select Cut XP. It also came a long way from several other commercial gas mowers.

Two active battery ports combine the power of two batteries, allowing you to pack up to 15Ah of battery capacity and achieve higher torque on board. If your grass grows 3″ or more inches or very thick between cuts, then this is the EGO mower you should grab to give you the power you need to cut evenly.

Best Value EGO Self-Propelled Mowers
EGO 56V Self-Propelled Mower (LM2102SP)

If you want to save some money and still get a great self-propelled, battery-powered mower, then EGO’s 21-inch LM2100SP is perfect.

While it’s more basic than the other models we mentioned above, it doesn’t slack off in the features department. Here are some highlights.

● Mulch, bag or side discharge
● Vertical storage
● 21-inch poly deck
● LED headlights
● Single point height adjustment

At $549 for a kit with a 7.5Ah battery, there are arguably cheaper self-propelled cordless mowers on the market. However, finding good value means balancing price, performance and quality, and that’s what the EGO does well with this model compared to cheaper options.
